Refrigerator fault and its solution
Refrigerator problems usually stem from dirty condenser coils, worn door gaskets, or faulty electrical sensors.
| Fault | Likely Cause | Solution |
|---|---|---|
| Not cooling enough | Dirty condenser coils, failing door gasket, or blocked air vents inside. | Clean coils behind or under the fridge; check door rubber seal with a dollar bill; unblock air vents inside. |
| Running continuously | Temperature set too low, dirty coils, or defrost thermostat failure. | Set fridge temp to 37°F–40°F (3°C–4°C); clean coils; test defrost thermostat for continuity. |
| Water leaking on the floor | Clogged defrost drain line or damaged water supply line. | Flush the drain tube inside the back freezer wall with warm water; inspect rear water inlet valves. |
| Frost buildup in freezer | Damaged door seal letting in moist air, or failing defrost heater. | Inspect and replace worn door gasket; test defrost heater and timer with a multimeter. |
| Loud clicking or buzzing | Dust-clogged condenser fan blade or a faulty compressor starter relay. | Clear debris around fan blades behind lower panel; replace start relay plug attached to compressor. |
| Ice maker stopped working | Frozen supply tube, clogged water filter, or defective water valve. | Replace water filter; thaw frozen water inlet tube with warm air; test inlet solenoid valve. |
Always unplug the appliance before cleaning coils, inspecting wiring, or replacing electrical parts.
