How is the importance of fridge compressor oil in the fridge ?
Compressor oil is very important for the proper operation and long life of a refrigerator compressor. Its main functions are:
- Lubricates moving parts – Reduces friction between the compressor’s internal components.
- Prevents wear and damage – Protects bearings, pistons, and other moving parts from excessive wear.
- Helps cool the compressor – Carries heat away from internal components, preventing overheating.
- Provides sealing – Helps create a good seal between moving parts, improving compression efficiency.
- Reduces noise – Proper lubrication allows the compressor to run more smoothly and quietly.
- Extends compressor life – Adequate oil reduces mechanical stress and increases the compressor’s service life.
- Works with the refrigerant – The oil circulates with the refrigerant and then returns to the compressor to continue lubricating it.
Signs of compressor oil problems
- Compressor becomes noisy.
- Compressor overheats.
- Reduced cooling performance.
- Compressor seizes or fails.
- Oil leaks around refrigerant pipes or the compressor.
Important notes
- Always use the correct type and amount of compressor oil recommended for the refrigerant and compressor model (for example, mineral oil, POE oil, or PAG oil, depending on the system).
- Too little or the wrong type of oil can damage the compressor.
- Compressor oil is normally sealed inside the refrigeration system and does not require routine replacement unless the system is repaired, the compressor is replaced, or there has been a refrigerant/oil leak.
In simple terms, compressor oil is the “lifeblood” of the refrigerator compressor. Without proper lubrication, the compressor will wear out quickly, overheat, and may eventually fail.
